Replacing Water Meter Batteries

How to determine which water meter battery you need & how to replace it.

General Information

  • If your water meter has a blank screen like the one shown below, you may need to replace the battery:

We have two types of batteries for different versions of our Water Meters. Read below to determine which type you will need.

Please provide photos of the side of your water meter to your support representative so they can determine which style you will need.

Type A Battery:

If your water meter is smooth sided with no lip and the serial number falls between 2204XXXX and 2303XXXX you will need a type A (white cased battery).

Type B Battery:

If you have a water meter with serial ranges 2302XXXX and newer with a small lip on the sides you will need a type B cylindrical Battery.

WM Battery Type A Replacement steps (S/N 2204xxxx to 2303XXXX with smooth sides)

Step 1: Start by removing the 2 red and clear tabs on the side of the WM. These are not intended to be removed and the wire/cord will need to be cut in order to proceed to next step.

Step 2: Remove the 4 clear plugs. After doing so, there will be 4 small Phillips head screws that will need to be removed.

Step 3: Open up the WM and remove the battery at the black quick connect plug.

Step 4: Use adhesive strip and apply on side of the battery going face down inside the water meter. Insert new WM battery, attach the black connector, and reassemble WM. Red and Clear tabs are not needed for resealing the sensor.

Water meter should again show a value on the display.

Note:

  • It will take 1-2 hours for Water Consumption to start showing up in the app.
  • Depending on how long the water meter was down, it could take 3-4 days for the graph in the app to populate.
