Post-Installation Checklist for Your BarnTalk System

Make sure your BarnTalk system is set up correctly and ready to protect your barn. Follow this quick checklist after installation.

Antenna Placement

Why it matters: Improper antenna placement is one of the most common causes of gateway or sensor connectivity issues after installation.

What to do:

  • The cellular antenna should be mounted outside and placed as high as possible vertically for the strongest signal.
  • The sensor antenna should be installed vertically and positioned in a location with the best possible line of sight to your sensors.
  • Avoid placing antennas near metal objects, thick walls, or other obstructions.

  • Ensure all antennas are securely connected to the gateway.

Refer to our antenna placement help article for detailed instructions on optimizing placement for best performance.

Sensor Alarms

Why it matters: It's important to set your thresholds and alarms so BarnTalk knows when to notify you when conditions fall outside of safe ranges.

What to do:

  1. Open the BarnTalk app and select your gateway.
  2. Tap on the sensor tile (temp, water, or dry contact).
  3. Select manage threshold, then use the toggle to turn on the sensor alarm. These can be adjusted whenever needed!

Need help?

Follow our help article with more detailed steps on how to enable sensor alarms.

To test an alarm, unplug the gateway to simulate a power loss. Leave it unplugged and watch for the emergency-level text and call alerts to come through.
