How does the BarnTalk system monitor power in a room?

There are currently 3 ways to monitor power in a room.

  1. Plug the BarnTalk Gateway into the wall in the room you want to monitor. The gateway contains a 24-hour battery, so if power goes out BarnTalk keeps working and you will be notified of the outage.
  2. Use a power relay module, an electrical device that changes state in the presence/absence of 110V, in conjunction with the Gateway Dry Contacts.
    • These Dry Contacts are located in the BarnTalk Communication Gateway. You will need to run wires from the room being monitored to the gateway.
  3. Use the BarnTalk Wireless Dry Contact Sensor. This sensor can be connected in the room you wish to monitor and wirelessly communicate with the gateway.

See this dry contact article for a deep dive into monitoring power and other peripheral equipment via dry contacts.
